Writing Challenge Winner!

Hey everyone, Dillfinger is back with the winner of the writing challenge! I apologize for getting this out late. I had so much fun reading all of the submissions! I was thoroughly impressed with what you were able to come up with and am excited to share the winning story.

Hello Ms D.! (I hope you don’t mind my calling you that.) This is my story “Guns and Floors”. I hope you enjoy it! Kevin couldn’t focus. His mind was all over the place. He slammed his laptop shut in frustration. Sighing loudly, he grabbed his jacket and made for the door. Maybe a walk would help. The chilly November air caught him as he walked out of the building, catching by surprise. Winter was almost here. Walking down the street he looked at the ground. A girl bumped into him and he twisted to glare at her. “Watch where you're going.” He snapped. “You’re the one who wasn’t looking where they were going.” She shot back, rolling her eyes. “But since we’re talking can you tell me where 251 Lawrence avenue is?” “Yeah.” Kevin said, calming down a bit. “That’s actually where I work. I can walk you there if you like.” “Great.” She said, turning around to walk down the street. “I’m looking for Kevin James once we get there. Do you know him?” “Actually I’m Kevin.” He said She stopped. “Well then I guess I don’t have to walk there.” She handed him a envelope. “The Boss says hi.” With that she turned and left, walking briskly down the road. Kevin blinked as she left. The Boss? He’d though he’d gotten away from that crime lord. He glanced down at the envelope in his hand. If he threw it away and never opened it, could he just forget about it? No. The Boss would just send him another one. Or worse. Send someone who would be far more persuasive. A buzz from his jacket pulled him out of his thoughts and he reached into his pocket and grabbed his phone. “Hey! When are you done work?” The text from his wife, Diana, read. He paused before writing, “I should be home by 6:00.” “Great!” Came the reply. “I’ll have dinner done by then.” “Thanks.” He smiled at his phone as a kiss emoji came in response, and placed it back in his pocket. Diana was great but she would have to wait. Hesitating a moment he opened the envelope in his hand and reached in. A white folded piece of paper touched his hand and he drew it out, twisting it to unfold it. It read: Hello Knife, It’s been a long time since I’ve heard from you. Did you think you could just leave? Family doesn’t abandon each other. Kevin rolled his eyes. The gang wasn’t his family. It continued: Meet me at the old meeting place 4:30. I need your expertise for something. Don’t even think about not coming or else you won’t see Diana again. ~The Boss Kevin ground his teeth. This guy was intolerable. He’d never actually met The Boss but he knew the man meant everything he said. He sighed and glanced at the time on his watch. Looks like he’d have to go there now to make it. Starting to walk to the favourite warehouse meeting place. It was a miracle the gloomy abandoned building wasn’t torn down yet. The walk was short and he got there in good time, slipping in through the side door. As his eyes adjusted to the gloom, he saw a table with a monitor on it. Walking forward he typed the password in on the keyboard and the screen glowed. “Good evening.” A garbled voice said. “I hoped you’d come.” “You didn’t give me much of a choice.” Kevin growled. “Now what do you want?” “Such impatience.” The voice tutted. “I need you to smuggle some goods over the border.” “No.” Kevin said. “I told you I was done doing things for you.” “Have it your way then.” The voice garbled. “But Diana will suffer.” “No. Leave her out of this.” He slammed his hand on the table. “You know I can’t.” It said. “Now are you in or out?” “Out.” Kevin said after a moment of silence. “I’m not playing your games anymore.” “Very well then. Goodbye Knife.” The screen went dark. Kevin glanced around, he swore he saw movement in the corner of the dark room. He stared hard for a second. Nothing moved. Turing around, he froze and looked down at his chest. A red dot hovered above his heart. “This is it.” He thought. “I hope Diana will be ok.” The last sound he heard was the bang of a gun as he fell to the floor. ~Chloe Chloe, I absolutely loved your story! I think you should definitely continue to develop your writing skills (especially in this genre).
