Saturday's Short Story: CCP-Supplies

Hello friends! Dillfinger's back with some more writing. The other day I was sitting in my rocking chair, knitting a sweater, when I had some inspiration for a story. In this story, you will learn about Dr. Joy Ang and her mission to overcome CCP-Supplies, a company that is trying to take over the world. Without further ado, here is this Saturday's short story:

Dr. Joy Ang walked down the cold, damp halls of the laboratory building. She shivered, pulling her lab coat tighter around her body, hoping it would make her warmer. She quickened her pace, the taps of her shoes echoing off the walls. As she neared a door at the end of the hall, she tied her long, straight black hair up into a bun on the top of her head using the dark brown elastic that, when it wasn’t in her hair, remained in its place on her left wrist. The door at the end of the hall was a large door with the words AUTHORIZED PERSONEL ONLY. She had never passed through it before.

She pushed the door open and saw another unusually long hallway. There was not a person in sight, and it was eerily silent. Taking a deep breath, she walked briskly to the end of the hallway, pausing outside the last door on the right. Her three crisp knocks echoed loudly. After a few seconds of pure silence, the door slowly opened. In the doorway stood a man towering over Dr. Ang. The man had short black hair and a perfectly clean shaved face. He wore a black Brioni suit with a dark purple tie. Dr. Ang cleared her throat,

“Hello, I am Dr. Joy Ang.” She stated, holding out her hand for a handshake. The man looked down at her outstretched arm disapprovingly before meeting her eyes again. “I am working on the D.O.D-Supreme with Dr. Clyde,” she continued, withdrawing her hand and wiping it on her lab coat, “Dr. Clyde wanted me to meet him here.” The man studied her for a few seconds before standing aside and motioning for her to enter the room. Taking her courage in hand, she entered the room. Inside she saw an enormous desk, flooded with papers and files. Next to the large red armchair in the corner of the room, stood Dr. Clyde, staring thoughtfully at a map of the world.

“Dr. Clyde, this is Dr. Joy Ang. She said you requested to see her,” explained the man who had met Dr. Ang at the door. His voice was low and rough. Dr. Clyde spun around; a smile stretched across his face when saw Dr. Ang,

“Ah yes, Dr. Ang,” he exclaimed, “I need updates on our little project.” Dr. Clyde’s greying hair was neatly combed, but his short stubby beard looked as if it hadn’t been shaved in some time. His black dress pants and blue plaid shirt were covered by a lab coat, bearing had a small stain where he had spilled some of his coffee. He had dark circles under his eyes; Dr. Ang saw this, she gathered he had not had a good sleep in the last little while.

“Well, sir, we are scheduled to launch the frequency in exactly 24 hours,” Dr. Ang reported, glancing at the clock on the wall. Concerned, she asked “But, um, what exactly is going to happen when we emit the frequency?” Although Dr. Ang had been working on D.O.D-Supreme for the last 10 years in the product development department, she was still unsure of the whole plan.

“Oh, it’s simple. You see, over the last 10 years our company, CCP-Supplies, has become the number one supplier for not only our own country, but in the entire world. Dr. Ang, we supply the world with everything they need.” He rambled, “Now, all of our products have one planned default. When a certain frequency is emitted, they will disintegrate.” He handed Dr. Ang a sheet of paper with information about the project, including what frequency would be emitted.

She gasped; she was going to be involved in the takedown of the world. It had long been known that the President of the small country Coral Coast Pacific wanted to make their country the most powerful, but Dr. Ang was shocked to discover that this was how it would be done.

She pictured her family living in America. “Dr. Clyde, I know I have been working on this project, I have family overseas. I don’t want to be involved in something that will harm my family or anyone for that matter,” argued Dr. Ang. She was shocked that she could have gotten herself involved with something like this. I should have guessed something was up, she thought to herself.

“Oh, come on, if this works out you and I will be rich!” retorted Dr. Clyde, waving his arms wildly. Dr. Ang sighed. She knew she couldn’t put her family’s lives at risk, but what difference could she make?

“I’m sorry, but I refuse to be a part of this project any longer. I don’t want to be associated with this company anymore,” she firmly stated. She folded the piece of paper Dr. Clyde had handed her and stuffed it in her jean pockets.

“Well, that is quite unfortunate,” replied Dr. Clyde. “You can escort her out, Mr. Fredrickson,” he ordered, his silent companion. The man grabbed Dr. Ang by the arm and pulled her to the door. He pushed her out into the hall, the deafening noise of the slamming door echoed through the halls.

Still shaking, she found herself in the parking lot. She had no memory of how she arrived there. Clearly, they did not consider her to be a threat. She knew she needed to escape the country before they changed their minds.

At the airport, Dr. Ang called her family to tell them that she would be home the same day with big news. Her suitcase budged with the belonging she had been able to frantically stuff into it. She boarded the first plane back to America. She landed with only 20 hours before the frequency would be emitted. After what seemed like an eternity, Dr. Ang walked out the doors to meet her family. Her little sister, Emily, ran to hug her. Dr. Ang embraced her tightly, dropping the backpack she had slung across her left shoulder. She released her sister and hugged her parents. The air outside was cold and damp, strange for weather in northern California. Dr. Ang shivered and zipped up her black coat. They quickly loaded everything into their car and drove to the house.

Finally home, Dr. Ang checked the time. She only had 18 hours to prevent worldwide disaster. Gathering her sister and parents into the living room, she broke the terrifying news.

Her father turned pale as she spoke, but he quickly sprang into action. His work for the government had resulted in a good friendship with Senator Jones, who might be able to get in direct contact with the president. The senator was in town and able to meet with them. The next three hours were some of the most stressful and anxious moments in Dr. Ang’s life. She stood in the corner of a private room with only her father and the senator, she checked her watch. Only 15 hours left.

“Sir, the only thing that can be done is to warn the president and attempt to remove all products from CCP-Supplies,” suggested Dr. Ang’s father.

“Mr. Ang, CCP-Supplies is our number one supplier. Their products are literally everywhere,” replied the senator. Suddenly, Dr. Ang remembered the paper that Dr. Clyde had handed her. She pulled it out of her pocket.

“I have an idea!” she exclaimed, walking over to where the men were standing, “Dr. Clyde, one of the men in charge of the project, gave me a sheet with the frequency codes for the project.” the following hours were a blur. Dr. Ang, her father, and the senator were flown on a private jet to Washington D.C. to meet with the president.

Dr. Ang and her father followed the senator and three security guards through the halls of the White House. If someone had asked Dr. Ang if she would have the opportunity to meet the president of the United States of America, she would have laughed at the ridiculous thought. She was nervous to meet the president, but she knew that he was the one person that could avoid the disaster.

Dr. Ang stood in the Oval Office, trying to calm her breath. The president stepped forward to shake her hand, she hoped that it wasn’t grossly sweaty. After introductions, Dr. Ang, her father, and the senator told the president that they only had 10 hours before the frequency would be emitted, destroying everything created by CCP-Supplies. When the president heard the news, he seemed close to panic but quickly calmed down. With lazar focus, he started to create a plan. The next five hours seemed to evaporate before the president, Dr. Ang, her father, and the senator devised a full plan. The president conscripted a group of scientists to find a way to target CCP-Supplies with their own frequency before they could attack the rest of the world.

After four long anxious hours, they were ready. Dr. Ang and her crew stood inside a large control room. What happened next was all a blur. A man in front of a large monitor started to count down 10…9…8… when he reached 1, there was a loud noise…then silence. Cheers erupted and complete strangers hugged each other.

Dr. Ang watched the news recap of what had happened to CCP-Supplies. As soon as the frequency had reached them, it destroyed everything. The CCP headquarters were disintegrated, people’s cars stopped working on the middle of busy roads, power went out, people’s clothes disappeared into thin air, even people themselves started to disappear. They had done it. Dr. Ang had helped stop CCP-Supplies from destroying the world.
